Doodle Jump: A Relic of the Past


As a child I was brought up on many games, to which, I remember owning a Nintendo Wii, playing games such as LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Wii Sports and Mario Kart. However, what is even more curious is my evolution to mobile phone games from ages 10-14. Playing games such as Subway Surfers, Jet Pack Joyride, Plants Vs Zombies, Cut the Rope. I could go on forever, yet none of these give the impression or nostalgic hit like Doodle Jump did. Such a simplistic game, always attempting to reach a new high score by jumping on platforms and dodging or shooting monsters.

Erkki Huhtamo has a very interesting perspective for the concept of the “Archaeology of Arcade Gaming” to which I think Doodle Jump fits into perfectly, as a catalyst and a relic of that era of addictive platformers…
