So what is participation? Joost Raessens has said it is a combination of Multimedia, Virtuality, Interactivity and connectivity which are all interlaced with one another (Playful identites). Participatory media in gaming has been around since the dawn of digital time with different games as Mario been taking from the gaming world into main stream media culture across different platforms.
