Whenever I get too frustrated trying to play competitive FIFA, bored of the same three games on repeat, fall out of love with gaming, or just have a hankering for some nostalgic charm, there are always games that I have played and completed dozens of times, (and some I haven’t, such as Crash Twinsanity) yet I still seem to come back to, and could play for ever. Why? Why do I come back to these games?
That is what I would like to find out. This semester I will be developing a digital artefact around the concept of replay value in video games. Do older games have more replay value than newer games? What makes a video game replayable? Are there specific in game features that play into this concept? Is replay value important?
